Short swing dresses usually go wrong in the same three places on a fuller body. The fabric hangs from the shoulders as one flat sheet, so the widest part of you is where it has the least room to move — it drags across the stomach and pushes forward as you walk. A short unlined hem creeps up the thigh once your legs touch, so you spend the day pulling it back down. And a split neckline with nothing holding its edges falls open the moment you lean over a table or a pram.

The Clarinda works around all three. A gathered seam sits below the bust, so the width is released above the stomach and drops from there rather than pressing across it. The hem finishes in a deep gathered flounce, and that extra band of fabric at the bottom edge gives the hem something to hang on. The split V is bound with a self-fabric band that runs the full depth of the opening, so the edges keep their shape instead of falling apart.

Fit note

This is a genuinely loose swing shape with no waist seam, so once it is on there is nothing to adjust — it hangs from the shoulders and skims everything below. Your usual size is normally the right one; sizing up mostly adds width across the shoulders rather than room where you want it. It is a short dress and will sit higher on a taller frame than the photos suggest, so leggings or a slip underneath are worth considering if you want to sit down without thinking about it.
